Italian Civil records NEW METHODOLOGY FOR SEARCHING ITALIAN CIVIL RECORDS By Dr Francesco Matozza A birth certificate of an Italian ancestor is indispensable for Italian citizenship. All Italian descendants (italoargentinos,italouruguayos, italobrasileros, italovenezolanos, italoamericanos, italoaustralianos, italocanadienses etc.) have the same difficulties in finding birth Certificates of Italian ancestors. For several years I have been studying Italian genealogy and in particular how to obtain Italian Civic documentation. I have written several articles on the matter and recently we have developed, with a multidisciplinary team, a new methodology of searches that allow us to find Italian documents faster and more efficiently. This network of researchers, specialized in Italian genealogy, has implemented a system of searches using finder robots, spiders and software specialized in genealogy. The researchers input is essential in the search to obtain better results Complexity of the search According to the data obtained there are 5 levels. Knowing: 1- Full name of the Italian, birth date and birthplace 2- Full name the Italian, birthplace (Comune) and approximate year of birth 3- Full name, year of birth and province, but you does not know birthplace (Comune) 4- Full name, year of birth and region, but Comune or Province are unknown 5- Full name, year of birth and Comune, Province, and Region are unknown. The search of Italian civic records is like an Equation with one or several incognitos to solve. In degrees 3, 4 and 5 specialist advice is required to find the document. Archives We consulted different municipal Italian archives; Regional, State and different databases to obtain greater data Information systems Computerized management of the data allows us to make better decisions on search routes. The information center prioritizes the tasks of Selecting, storing, organizing, comparing, valuing, synthesizing and printing information. There is constant monitoring as the search progresses. All the obtained data is stored in the database and printed in hard copy. Conclusion. Thanks to a specialized multidisciplinary team in Italian genealogy, the Italian documents can be obtained faster and more efficiency. My grandparents, Giovanni Battista Tournour Viron born 1864 in Gravere, Piemonte, Italy. wife Barbara Nurisso born Sep.8 1869 in Gravere, which is a few miles from the French border north west of Susa, Italy. Battista the name he went by migrated to Bracebridge Ontario Canada in 1902 and the family followed, with Barbara, and children Eugenio, Onorina, Maggiorino Tournour Viron in 1903. The father of Battista was Francesco Tournour Viron born approximatley 1831 in Gravere, Battista and Barbara married May 31, 1889 in Gravere, have certificate. Battista brought into this marriage 3 or 4 brothers for Barbara to care for. I am trying to find who these brothers were. I believe some of them immigrated to Bracebridge, Ontario Canada at the same time Barbara and childrem immigrated. Battista and Barbara returned to Gravere, Italy berfore June 1913 to see about their property there, but Battista became ill, died and is buried in the church cemetery of the village of Gravere, nestled in the French Italian Alps. Think Gravere is about 30 miles west of Torino.

Ciao' Both of my paternal grandparents were born in Northern Italy. The name of their tiny village escapes me but it was way up in the mountains. They came to the U.S. and set up life in Brooklyn, N.Y. right around 1895+/-. John Louis Savio, my Dad, was born in 1913and died in 1999. My mother's mother was Calabrese but born in the U.S. She married a Spainard when she was 16 to get away from her homelife and had two very young children when her husband died of the "Spanish Flu". This was near Rutland, Vt. She married a widower named Dominic Barone who had four youngsters of his own and together they had six more children.They moved to Burlington, Vt. My father was stationed in Vt. during the second world war and met my mother at Camp Johnson in Essex. They married and moved to New Jersey where my father made his living as a motorcycle dealer. I married a woman of russian/Polish decent and had three children. we moved to Vt. in 1977 and have been here since.

Hello Joe and all of italian origin. I live in Australia and am trying to trace my family tree without too much success so I'm hoping someone can help me. On a visit to Italy last year I found my great grandfather/grandmothers grave at the cemetery in Palmi, Calabria. His name was Carmine Filippone and I know he was one of 24 children! He married my grandmother Fortunata Scarcella. I am unable to find their birth or death dates or trace back anything further although their was some information on the internet regarding the Scarcella side but don't know if it relates to my grandmother or someone else with the same name. The cemetery had lots of graves with the Filippone name (is it any wonder) nonetheless I can't find further information. If anyone has any information on these two surnames I would love to hear from you. Other names in the family are: Pugliese, Rizzitano, Gallico, Greco, Cicala, Pisanelli.

Met my grandmother, Maria DiMaggio 1885-1958, married and had 8 children. I believe they entered the States via Louisianna, settled in Detroit for a period of time, then lived the rest of their lives in Huntington Park, California where Papa built their home. My grandfather's mother was a Militello. My grandmother's mother was an Amato. Grandma was a first cousin to Joe DiMaggio, baseball player. I have no info about my grandfather's side of the family. I found copies of the Salerno, Campagna civil records for my grandmother's mother and father. Problem is the birth records list different birth years (1840 vs. 1844) for Giuseppe Trotta but the wife is the same, Raffaela Zaccaria. I am trying to get info on my grandfather Domenico Antonio Raco born in Adore Marina ,Reggio Calabria on the 17th of January 1883 or 1885.He supposedly arrived into Ellis Island with his sister Caterina in either 1899 or 1903. He worked in a club but not sure which..we think as an entertainer..He died under what we believe are suspicious circumstances but need to clarify this and need some help to locate the Recorder in Pittsburgh Pensilvania..he died on his birthday apparently (1/17/1930 in Stowe Township.. My grandmothers name was "Carmela Olla" I believe she was born in Santo Stefano di Camastra, Sicily around 1864. She had one or more brothers and one was called Luigi. Her brother migrated to Wyandotte MI. She may have had brothers in Pennsylvania. Whether they are brothers or close relatives whom my mother called Zio I dont know. My grandmother migrated to America around 1919.

Developing a family tree of Berardo and Eleanor Natale Groppi. This is a reply to Matthew Larcinese (2000)...His email address is now unknown. He was looking for DeGregorio's from Gessopalena, Italy. I know of DeGregorio's from Gessopalena, Italy. My surname is Di Gregorio...but we found our family in Pescara, Italy and they spelled it DeGregorio. It must have been changed when they came to this country. Althought I visited my family in Pescara, I remember them saying that some of the cousins were from Gessopalena. As a matter of fact, one of them, cousin by marriage was named Lena. I have checked the family tree that we did when we visited, but I am not sure of the maiden surnames. Lena's full name is Madolena. She is/was married to Saverio and they had three children. I'm searching for any information on my grandfather...JOSEPH TREVELLI, born January, 1840 in Provincia di Navarro, Italy, and died November, 1911 in Nevada. He emmigrated around 1850-60, and was naturalized about 1870, according to the Nevada Census for 1890/1900. My father never really knew him, and I have next to nothing to go on to even begin my search. All I know is that he came to Nevada from Italy, and after working in the "Coal-burning" industry, he went into business in the area, owning a boarding house/saloon, etc. I hope the name rings a bell with someone, or perhaps someone knows where I could begin searching? Does anyone have fmily still living in Bivona who can check something for me? One of my ancestors was the Marchese di Valdina, who was born in Bivona, and whom I believe built a palace there - the Palazzo Marchese Greco. I am trying to either get a picture or a description of the coat of arms (lo stemma) on the building, to see if it matches up with my great-grandfather's. So I was wondering if anyone could physically take a look at the palazzo on Via Roma/Via Palazzo Marchese Greco in Bivona for me. What a wonderful find, this webpage. I am trying to trace my paternal grandmother, Eleonora. I have two last names as possibilities: LAULAGATA(or LADIGATA) hard to read VERY old paper.
